Ideas To Steal From 5 Gorgeous Scandinavian Kitchens

Scandinavians are always right on the cutting edge of things when it comes to design, and kitchens are no exception. So I dug through my treasure trove of lovely kitchen images to find these five especially beautiful spaces, full of ideas worth stealing for your next renovation.

There are lots of good things in this space from Ballingslov, but I especially enjoy the contrast between the traditional black-and-white floor tile and the minimally styled cabinetry. Other ideas worth stealing: copper accents (in the pot rail, lighting, faucet, and sink), and those beautiful pale green cabinets.

I love the elegant simplicity of this kitchen from Stadshem, via Coco Lapine Design. Black accents give the space a modern vibe, and restricting upper cabinets to just one wall makes for a spacious feel with sacrificing too much on storage. The finishing touch is the freestanding china cabinet, which adds extra storage as well as a little bit of an old-world feel.

In this kitchen from Hus & Hem via Riazzoli, marble countertops and a marble backsplash add a touch of luxe to a super-modern space. Also worth a look: the combination of full-height upper cabinets on the right with a single shelf, which helps to open up the sink area, and the open shelving room divider which provides a place to display pretty dishes and also helps to define the kitchen.

There’s definitely an interplay between old and new in this kitchen from Milk Decoration, and the contrast is delicious. The super-modern detailing on one side of the kitchen (especially evident in the appliances and range hood) is balanced out by the traditional style of the massive china cabinet, while the simple black, white, and gold palette brings everything together.

I love the way this kitchen, spotted on Roomly, mixes different tones: the navy cabinets, the light grey-green of the Swedish stove, the white of the range hood. There are a lot of features here that are common to the other kitchens, like the marble countertops, square tile, and gold fixtures, but it’s the detailing (and placement) of the stove in particular that makes this kitchen unique: placing the stove, and therefore the range hood, in the center of the room makes it a celebrated feature, and the symbolic heart of the whole kitchen.
